Resfest to Celebrate 10 Innovative Years

The film and digital arts festival Resfest is celebrating its 10th year with richer programs from Dec.

6-10.The annual tour festival that kicked off in Chicago this year will soon arrive in Seoul, its 16th destination. It will be held at Yonsei University's Centennial Hall.

The festival opens with a retrospective film of Radiohead, and it ends with the documentary "Rock the Bells", a story about how the members of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan were reunited.

Titled "Radiohead, the Visionaries: A Decade of Breaking New Talent", the opening film consists of music videos and video clips to highlight the British band's history.

The opening and closing films are followed by performances by music bands, hip-hop groups and disc jockeys.

The main program consists of 19 sections that include a total of 297 short and feature length digital films from 30 countries. They were selected among a record 2,200 film submissions.

The special programs to celebrate the festival's 10th edition include A Decade of RESFEST: 10 Seminal Short Films, which collects milestone short films shown in the past 10 years. Others include Unsung Heroes: Music Video Gems from the Archive, which shows works by directors who are believed to turn the genre of music video into an art form.

Another highlight program is Visual Effect Seminar: VFX from "Superman Returns", "King Kong" and "The Host" on Dec. 8, which illustrates how special visual effect technologies have evolved in digital media.

Resfest began as a small film festival in 1995 at an art gallery in San Francisco, and it has grown into a major festival stopping at 40 cities around the world annually, exploring the experimental aspects of digitally generated media with screening of films, informative seminars, experiential parties and performances, an a range of innovative and experimental programs suiting the personality and characteristics of each city.
