The Baseball Writers Association of America on Monday announced finalists for this year's Major League Baseball awards -- the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year. Three each from the National League and American League are chosen as contenders for each award by a vote of the association's members after the regular season ends.

Ryu was selected in the National League along with Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets, last year's recipient, and Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals, a three-time winner. The winner will be announced on Nov. 13.

Ryu had the best season of his MLB career this year. He bagged 14 wins and five losses in 29 games and posted the league's lowest ERA of 2.32. He was named the National League Pitcher of the Month in May and had the honor of pitching in the league's All-Star Game in July.
