The administration is seeking to put the War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-shin, a Chosun-era naval commander and a national hero on the UNESCO Memory of the World International Register. It also aims to have records of the Saemaeul Movement or the New Community Movement in the 1970s included on the register.

It expects the War Diary will be considered a valuable record since it's unprecedented worldwide for an admiral to leave a personal record of war written during wartime.

The administration believes the records on the Samaeul will also be recognized by UNESCO as the movement is an exemplary case of poverty eradication, and underdeveloped countries are learning from the example.

The administration is also seeking to have gimjang and the lotus lantern festival added to UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Gimjang refers to the annual tradition of making a large amount of kimchi ahead of the winter season. The lotus lantern festival, which came from the age of the ancient Silla kingdom, has become an annual festival held every year on Buddha's birthday.
