Sales deals for Poetry and I Saw the Devil

2010/05/25 Source

Two films from high profile directors have already been snapped up by international buyers at Cannes. Previous Cannes jury judge Lee Chang-dong's "Poetry" and Kim Jee-woon's "I Saw the Devil" have been sold to a group of mostly European territories.

"Poetry" about an elderly woman who turns to poetry to find Solace in her tragedy stricken life has been sold to Golem Distribution for Spain and Andorra, MCF MegaCom Film for the countries of the former Yugoslavia and Khan Entertainment for Taiwan. "Poetry"'s world première at Cannes comes with much anticipation given the director's profile at the festival and that his last film Secret Sunshine (2007) garnered his lead Jeon Do-yeon the best actress award at Cannes in 2007

"I Saw the Devil", on the other hand, is going to France after being sold to ARP. The film reunites director KIM with possibly Asia's biggest actor Lee Byung-hun who appeared in the director's "A Bittersweet Life" (2005), and Choi Min-sik ("Old Boy", 2003). The revenge thriller about a serial killer who kills a secret agent's fiancé was reportedly sold on the first day of the Cannes Film Market.
