Seoul's daytime high on Monday surged to 35.4 degrees Celsius, the highest since 1958 when it was 37.2 degrees Celsius, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

This year's heat wave has come unusually early for Seoul. Temperatures first topped 35 degrees Celsius in July for the past three years.

With Korea potentially facing what could be one of the hottest summers in decades and the coronavirus epidemic on top of it, thorough preparations may be needed to help combat the heat.
