Seoul to introduce tour package programs for foreigners

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday it will offer new hop-on, hop-off nationwide bus tour packages for foreign visitors to provide a more convenient way to travel in the country.

The envisioned programs, set to kick off in May, include transportation, accommodations, and guide and translation services, while detailed itineraries, including meals, depends on each tourist, the city government said.

A bus will take participants to a tourist spot, where they will be able to enjoy sightseeing and dining on their own before returning to the bus at an appointed time, according to the city.

Three different trips -- western, eastern and nationwide -- will be available, and a five-day program, for instance, is expected to cost about 400,000 won ($355) to 500,000 won, according to the city.

The cities of PyeongChang and Yeosu, which are set to hold the 2018 Winter Olympics and the World Expo this year, respectively, will be on the list of destinations, along with several cities that feature diverse cultural heritages but have poor access, the city government said.

"The program is expected to provide foreign tourists with more chances to look around the country by enhancing accessibility", said Choi Yong-hoon, an official of the tourism department of the city government. "We are trying to reflect their preferences for traveling alone rather than as a group in the program".

The municipal government said it has earmarked 170 million won to develop and promote the programs, with a plan to complete the program development by May. (Yonhap)
