Animated comedy "Shrek Forever After" entered the Korean box office at No. 1 over the weekend, pushing back former week's winner "Knight & Day" down the chart.
Figures from the Korean Box Office System (KOBIS) released on Monday revealed that "Shrek", which opened in local theaters on July 1, sold 674,763 tickets during the weekend of July 2 to 4.
The movie, voiced by big Hollywood stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, is about how Shrek, bored with his life, makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin on living his life as a real ogre and later finds himself living in a twisted version of Far Far Away. Shrek must find a way to turn things to the way they were.
Hollywood action film "Knight & Day", starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, slipped down one spot from last week attracting 421,810 moviegoers, while Korean war film "71-Into the Fire" also dropped a slot from the previous week to third place selling 367,007 tickets.
Other movies on the top 10 included "Splice", "Barefoot Dream", "I Love You Phillip Morris", "The A-Team" and "Sex and the City 2".
