SICAF seeks applicants for 2008 contest

The Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival is inviting cartoonists and animators from around the world to participate in its 2008 digital cartoon competition. Finalists will have their works displayed at the festival to be held in May.

"We expect the SICAF international digital cartoon competition to reinvigorate the international digital cartoon industry by offering an opportunity to discover new promising digital cartoon content worldwide", said Sohn Ki-hwan, president of the festival's executive committee.

"As a global leader in information technology, Korea also aims to lead the digital cartoon industry".

In order to qualify, submissions should be viewable through digital media, and only original, unpublished works will be accepted, the festival committee said. Submissions must not have won any previous awards or been selected for any competitions. The categories are Web-cartoon, Web-comics and digital illustration. Applicants should file their entries by Feb. 28.

The digital cartoon competition is designed to boost the standing of the SICAF, Korea's largest cartoon and animation festival, which marks its 12th anniversary since its establishment in 1995. Total prize money for the 13 award-winning works is set at $35,000. The competition is open to talented cartoonists and animators regardless of nationality, whose submissions will form part of the exhibitions to be held during the five-day festival scheduled to start on May 21, 2008.

Results of the competition will be announced on April 23. For further information, call (02) 3455-8407 or visit http://www.sicaf.org
