Song Il-gook was appointed public relations ambassador for China, along with Jang Nara who was reappointed for a second term, by the China Cultural Center in Seoul yesterday.

"I am honored to have the chance to experience and spread China's marvelous cultural heritage. I will persevere to expand the understanding between Korean and Chinese culture and increase cultural exchange between the countries", Song said.

Song, whose grandfather, General Kim Jwa-jin, is a famous independence fighter, and whose mother is Kim Eul-dong, a famous Korean actress, is one of the most eligible bachelors Korean women wish to marry. Song has acted in a drama titled "Terms of Endearment", which is aired on Chinese Central TV, receiving a favorable response. Song's part in "Emperor of The Sea", an epic historical drama set in the Shilla Dynasty, has raised Song's popularity to sky-rocketing levels in Korea.

"I think the popularity of 'Conditions of Affection' (the Chinese drama in which he acted) which was aired on Chinese CCTV, had a lot to do with my appointment", said Song.

Jang Nara, who was appointed public relations ambassador for China last year, has also just finished filming for her Chinese drama, "Tomboy Princess", which will be aired simultaneously in China and Hong Kong.

The appointment ceremony was attended by Chinese Culture Minister Sun Jiazheng, Chinese Ambassador to Korea Li Bin and other dignitaries.
