Actor Song Kang-ho's son Song Jun-pyung has been called up to the national Under-16 football squad. The 15-year-old joined a training camp at the Mokpo International Football Center, South Jeolla Province, on Wednesday.

The camp is to end on Feb. 14 and is headed by Chunnam Dragons coach Choi Moon-sik, who was chosen to head the U-16 team on Jan. 6. A total of 33 youths, including 19 from last year's roster, are participating in the two-week training.

Song is currently a defender for the Suwon BlueWings' Under-15 team and a student at Maetan High School in Suwon.

An employee at the Korea Football Association (KFA) said that the teenager has been a promising talent since his elementary school days, when he played in KFA-backed programs for children who want to play football.

He was chosen as a forward because of his speed and movement along with BlueWings U-15 teammate Joo Hyun-ho.

He is likely to play in the Asian Football Confederation's Under-16 Championships to start on Sept. 21 in Iran.

His father is a renowned actor who has starred in such hit movies as "Thirst" by director Park Chan-wook.
