Success of 'Telecinema 7' in between drama and film? It remains to be seen

Whether Telecinema 7, a joint project of Korea and Japan, will be successful or not is a moot point with 'The Relation of Face, Mind and Love' ended up with drawing 30,000 during weekend. Telecinema is a combined word of tele from the broadcasting sector and cinema from screening of films.

The 'Telecinema 7' is content where One Source Multi Use strategy is applied in that drama PDs of Korea are in charge of direction and writers of Japan in writing. Movies produced under the joint project are screened at only a handful of theaters and later they are aired in TV.

Following 'The Relation of Face, Mind and Love' starring Kang Ji-hwan and Lee Ji-ah, which was released on 5th, a total of 7 films will hit the theater, one film per week, in the order of '19', 'Postman from Heaven', "Paradise" and 'After the Wedding'.

'The Relation of Face, Mind and Love', which crossed the start line, attracted only around 30,000 during the weekend. A handsome and successful architect meets with a car accident which leaves him with 'temporary visual impairment'. Then he falls into love with one unattractive woman. It is a light comedy but in fact, it is short of being a theatrical movie, according to critic.

Despite the controversy over the film, it is said that the joint project is successful in the business side. Production companies recouped the production cost through pre-sale thanks to popularity of stars of the Korean wave such as Big Bang, TVXQ and Ahn Jae-wook. Moreover, all the movies produced under the project are low budget with 1 billion won invested per each film.

Screening is getting momentum as fans rent the theater prior to the showing if their stars appear on the movie as lead role, according to PR agency. Coming soon on Nov. 11 are both 'Postman from Heaven' starring Kim Jae-joong Jae-joong of 'TVXQ' and actress Han Hyo-joo and '19-Nineteen' starring Seungri and Top (Choi Sung-hyeon) of Big Bang.
