Supporters to Cheer for Korea at Gwanghwamun Square

The Red Devils, the official supporters club of the national football team, will cheer for Korea at Gwanghwamun Square during the Brazil World Cup.

"We are planning to gather and cheer when Korea's group matches are held. We are in talks with the relevant government agencies to facilitate that", the club said on Thursday.
Seoul Plaza, which has been the main cheering spot since the 2002 World Cup, is being used as a memorial site for the victims of the April 16 ferry disaster.
"It remains to be seen whether fans can gather at Gwanghwamun early Wednesday morning here when the match against Russia will take place. It depends on whether another event, which is already scheduled to be held there, can be rearranged or canceled. As for those days when Korea faces Algeria and Belgium in the early mornings of June 23 and June 27 here, the square will be open for crowds to cheer", a city official said.
"We will encourage fans to stay inside the square so as not to cause traffic congestion during the morning rush hour. If there are areas closed to vehicles, we will make advance announcements", a police officer said.
About 50,000 to 60,000 people are expected to assemble at the square to show their support for the national team on match days.
The Red Devils will also discuss with local governments to decide other cheering spots. Numerous other street-cheering and similar events will be staged at 38 locations and 250 theaters across the country.
