Lasse Lindh and Yeon-gene, a Swedish-Korean duo that may or may not outlive their original premise of performing for just one summer, are increasingly hogging the limelight as they move toward greater commercial success.
Swedish indie singer-song writer Lasse Lindh teamed up with Yeon-gene, a Korean vocalist famous in the Hongik University club scene in Seoul. They have since performed at various shows in Korea, including at this year's Pentaport Rock Festival in Incheon last month.
In early August, they took the next step toward cementing their musical career by releasing a single.
Lindh, who debuted in Sweden in 1999, is known for blending various musical genres, from pop to electronica. He relocated to Korea when several of his songs became hits here after they featured on the soundtrack to the MBC TV series "Soulmate".
He settled in the Hongik University area, which is known as the nation's leading incubator of indie music.
However, soon after Lindh and Yeon-gene came up with the idea of collaborating, Lindh's mother was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.
"Because I had to get back to Sweden and stay there to look after my mother, we had to work on songs via email. I sent a file containing my singing, and Yeon-gene added her voice and sent it back to me. But everything clicked and worked out really well", said Lindh.
They wrapped up their official schedules as a duo, so they will be not be around for much longer. With their swelling fan base, however, they said they hope to appear again together in the future. "Maybe we should perform again at a rock festival next year" said Lindh.
