The 12 Seoul International Youth Film Festival is back with a wide selection of international films aimed at the youth market. The event, along with allowing youths to share their unique culture via cinema, also acts as a means to promote broader exchanges and networks and act as a stepping stone for youths into the mature media culture. This year the festival, which began in 1999, brings together around 30 feature and short films from all over the globe.

The SIYFF will kick off with the Berlinale invited Netherland/Belgium co production Eep!. This Asian premiere tells the tale of a little girl with wings who is taken in by a family only then to literally fly the coup.

In the Feature Film Invitation section there are seven Asian premieres including Grown Up Movie Star (2009) the Sundance Film Festival award winning debut from director Adriana Maggs. Seven films appear in the competition section from a diverse range of countries including the U.S, Sweden, Hong Kong and Korea. This year's special programme focuses on some of the earlier works of veteran Korean director/producer Kang Woo-seok. The "Silmido" director has three works in the festival including "Happiness Does Not Come From Grades" (1989), "I Want to Live Just Until 20 Years Old" (1991) and "Teenage Love Song" (1991).

Along with this diverse selection of films the festival also holds a film camp. Taking place over a seven day period around 100 teenagers from different countries will have the opportunity to engage in film making seminars and eventually make a film. In addition to the camp is the SIYFF Playground held outside the festival main venue - Piccadily Cinema in Jongno - and a number of small events have also been organized including magic shows, concerts and exhibitions.

The 12th Seoul International Youth Film Festival begins July 8 and will wrap up on the 14th. Information can be found in Korean and English through the website: Open the link
