yeonggi Digital Content Agency (GDCA, CEO: Kim, Byung Heon) has recently announced the current status of projects and the outcome of the animation production companies that are now under its guidance. Russia's national animated character Cheburashka to be co-produced by Korea, Russia, and Japan

Famous for its successful TV series Curucuru & Friends, Ffango Entertoyment (CEO: Moon, Je-Dae) is set to produce the animated film Cheburashka, one of Russia's leading animated characters.

The planning and directing of Cheburashka will be led by Tokyo TV Broadband in Japan and Frontier Works, while a Russian company will manage the art direction and Ffango Entertoyment will oversee the whole production.

Based on an original children's story written by Russian storyteller Eduard Uspensky in 1969, Cheburashka tells the story of Cheburashka, an unidentified animal from a tropical region who came to Russia by mistake, and who helps people in this cold and barren land and makes them happy.

Russians love this hairy character so much that they made it the official mascot for the 2006 Russia Winter Olympics. The Russian-made animated series based on the character has recently begun being broadcast in Japan and has instantly become hugely popular, prompting producers to create a feature-length animation.

The 75-minute Cheburashka is scheduled to premiere some time next summer in Japan and also due for screening in Korea.
