The K-drama Cliché We Can't Get Away From

K-drama has a lot of clichés: Rich man with his cinderella, (required) hospital scene, mean in-laws, water splash on the face, and the most frequent out of all is the secret of the birth. Even in the drama "Father is Strange", the pandora's box was opened recently.

This cliche has been used so many times through out the history of numerous k-dramas and sometimes it's so predictable. Yet, it's hard to resist the dramatic suspense that comes from this secrecy and it sure increase more tension through out the show. Let's take a look at some of the dramas that used this ultimate cliché.


"My Daughter Seo-yeong"


Thought he was a biological son and raised him for over 20 years, but found out he wasn't.

"Smile, Dong-hae"


Thought he was an arch enemy, but found out he was a hidden step-brother.


"Lee Soon-sin is the Best"


There was a biological mother and a mom who raised her, and found out the father wasn't a biological father either.


"Heaven's Promise"


Thought he was a biological father but found out their DNA doesn't match up.


"Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth"


He lived as an orphan since he was abandoned after birth but found out he is a royalty.


"Father is Strange"


Finally found his biological father after all the difficulties just to find out he's actually a friend of the biological father.
