Think Tank Calls Screen Quota 'Ineffective'

A private think tank says the screen quota aimed to protect the domestic film industry has lost its effectiveness.

The Korea Economic Research Institute said Wednesday that large domestic studios that produce and distribute films have led the recent growth of the movie industry, thus American films are no longer a major threat as in the past.

The institute proposed that instead of the quota, government policy should foster the domestic industry by expanding the film market and promoting investment.
