2006/09/15 | Permalink | Source

And next, our Son Heekyung takes a look at what's showing in theaters across Korea.
Among the latest releases, a Korean melodrama and a thriller.

First up is the new Korean melodrama "Maundy Thursday" ("Our Happy Time"), a story about love and capital punishment.
Popular actors Lee Na-young and Gang Dong-won play the main characters in this movie.
For those who think the film's a typical melodrama about a couple in love think again!
The film is the fourth directed by Song Hae-seong.
In "Maundy Thursday", a death row inmate will soon face execution for the murder of three people.

ACTOR: "The mother of one of the victims visits the man in the prison, and says she will try and forgive him.
That's when he truly realizes what he's done.
The film is not an ordinary love story, but rather about mutual understanding between people".

ACTRESS: "I play a woman who attempts suicide multiple times due to her troubled youth.
These two extreme characters gradually develop a relationship, and help each other soothe their pain".

Korean thriller "Puzzle" is about five men who are asked to steal a certificate of deposit at a bank by an unidentified person.
The five do not know each other, but if they succeed, they are promised a reward.
The puzzle is finding out why the unknown figure picked five random men to steal the certificate.

"An Inconvenient Truth" stars former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.
The film's a documentary on Mr. Gore's campaign to highlight climate change in the world, especially global warming.
Directed by Davis Guggenheim, "An Inconvenient Truth" has a dramatic storyline combined with personal events from Mr. Gore's life.

Next is the film "Scary Movie 4".
Directed by veteran comedic director David Zucker, the movie is the latest in the Scary Movie series of parodies.
This installment is no different from its predecessors as it makes fun of famous films including "Million Dollar Baby", "Brokeback Mountain", and "War of the Worlds".
