Tokyo Film Festival to screen Korean movies of 1980-90s

Korean movies produced in the 1980s and '90s will be screened at the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival to be held Oct. 22-30 in Japan.

According to the Korean Film Council on Sept. 21, the movies to be screened at this year's Tokyo festival are "Colors Of The Rainy Day", one of the early works of director Kwak Jae-yong, who also produced the recent movie "Windstruck"; "Trio", the early work of director Park Chan-wook; and "Do As You Like", directed by Oh Seung-keun and planned by Cha Seung-jae, the CEO of Sidus FNH.

The screening of Korean movies from an earlier period at an overseas film festival is unprecedented. They will be shown in the "Winds of Asia" section.

The latest Korean movies to be shown at the Tokyo Film Festival include "Rikidozan" (by Song Hae-seong), which will be shown at the closing ceremony; "Rules of Dating" (by Han Jae-rim), which will compete in the main competition; and "My Boyfriend Is Type-B" (by Choi Seok-won) and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (by Park Chan-wook) to be shown in the Special Screening section.

Aside from the 1980s and '90s movies, the "Winds of Asia" section will also feature Chun Mi-seon's debut movie "Love", directed by Oh Seok-keun.
