Week's New Movie Premieres

2007/02/02 Source

Thanks for staying with us.
The weekend's here, so for those of you planning to catch a movie, our Son Heekyung tells us what's new in theatres this week.
There's a Korean release based on a true story, and a Woody Allen movie starring the director himself and Starlett Johansson.

"Voice of a Murderer" is based on a high-profile kidnapping in 1991.
The son of a famous news anchor is taken hostage and the kidnapper harasses his parents for 44 days over the phone demanding a ransom.
Director Park Jin-pyo had a personal role in the kidnapping, as he filed a report on the abduction.

Next up is actor-director Mel Gibson's latest.
"Apocalypto" has already received Academy Award nominations.
Set in Mexico, it portrays a man's experience during the decline of the ancient Mayan civilization.
The rulers believe the key to success is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices.
The lives of peaceful villagers are ripped to shreds after a neighboring tribe invades.

Another offering from Hollywood is "Click", which has also gotten Oscar nominations.
The comedy is about a workaholic architect who has no time to spend with his family.
He gets what's call a "universal remote" that enables him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life just like a videotape.
Things go wrong as the remote overrules his choices.
Actors like Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale and David Hasselhoff star.

Last up is the Woody Allen picture "Scoop".
The film is half romantic comedy and half murder mystery.
The spirit of a deceased reporter is determined to give a big story to an American journalism student in London.
Director Allen also stars in the movie alongside Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman.
