"When the Day Breaks" is about a forensic scientist who becomes a murder suspect, starring Han Suk-kyu, Jung Yu-mi and Lee Hee-jun. It is helmed by "Crash Landing on You" director Lee Jeong-hyo.

"When the Day Breaks" is based on an original Chinese novel called "The Long Night". Suspicions were raised that the novel was a propaganda of the Xi Jinping administration, sparking controversy. Suspicions have been raised that the drama may be trying to glorify communism.
