Why Lee Jong-suk played the villain in "V.I.P"

How did Lee Jong-suk join the cast of "V.I.P"? An interview with the director of "V.I.P", Park Hoon-jung, clarifies the series of events.

In V.I.P, Lee Jong-suk takes on the role of Kim Gwang-il, a VIP and a suspect of a serial murder. Lee Jong-suk's casting was a shock in and of itself. This is the romcom actor's first attempt at a villainous role. It turns out that he reached out first. He had always had the thirst to do something "manly" and he called Park Hoon-jung to express his interest in the roel.

"I didn't think someone like Lee Jong-suk would do it. I was thinking of casting someone greener in the field than he is. I was looking at a list of young rookies when Lee Jong-suk called".

"I wondered why? Why would he want to do this? But I saw that he wanted more as an actor. We set up a meeting and I reviewed his work. Then I met him and I knew that he would do it very well. I remember thinking, 'the role suits him well'".

Lee Jong-suk joined "V.I.P" with star actors Jang Dong-gun, Kim Myung-min, and Park Hee-soon. He also learned the North Korean dialect and English, which made casting Lee Jong-suk a smart move. Director Park Hoon-jung said, "The Kim Gwang-il I was thinking of was different from the typical psychopath. Usually they "work" on killing their victims, but I wanted Kim Gwang-il to make it look like he was playing a game and smiling while he killed his victims. Lee Jong-suk did that well".

Meanwhile, "V.I.P" is a criminal movie about four men with different goals; to cover, to catch, and to avenge a V.I.P from the North who is a suspected serial killer. The movie comes out on the 24th of August.
