Women's Film Festival Kicks off April 6 in Seoul

The 8th Women's Film Festival in Seoul (WFFIS) will run from April 6 through April 14. In tune with the remarkable internationalization of the Republic of Korea, the festival will showcase 97 films from 33 different countries in the world.
The Korean actress Shim Hye-jin, one of the most popular Korea movie stars, has been selected as a judge for the "Asian Short Film & Video Competition" session of the festival.
The group of judges for the competition includes, Ann Mungai (director Saikati Enkabani), Theresa Kwong (Hong Kong Art Center), Jin-Sook Lee (CEO of Angel Underground Corporation and co-producer of "Bewitching Attractions"), Jin-Sook Lee (professor of law at Seoul National University) and Hye-Jin Shim. They will make a final selection from 20 short films to be considered.
WFFIS was launched in 1997 and centers around works by women filmmakers, especially those from Asia. It has contributed to Filmmaking in Asia by introducing films made about women and by women that present the female point of view within the media of film. The festival is essentially noncompetitive with the exception of the "Asian Short Film & Video Competition".
Special events at the film festival include Asian Women in Film Night, Cafe Femme, Talk to Her, film inside: special lecture, An International Forum for Asian Women's Film Archive Network, Korean Cinema in Focus: Women, People, and Korean New Wave. These events encourage more participation so as to improve the image of this event as an important international film festival.
At 7th Festival, 86 films from 28 different countries were screened, attracting more than 33,000.
