The World Cinema Foundation, founded by world-renowned film director Martin Scorsese, and the Korean Film Archive will digitally restore director Kim Ki-young's representative work, 'The Housemaid - 1960 (1960).

The Korean Film Archive said 'The Housemaid - 1960' is among the three works selected by the World Cinema Foundation this year for digital restoration. It said the joint restoration project is significant as it commemorates the 10th anniversary of his death. A local company will collaborate by working on and completing the project in time for the film's submission to the Cannes Film Festival in May.

The WCF plans to support the restoration project by donating 120,000 out of a total of 170,600 dollars worth of budget.

'The Housemaid - 1960' is the story of family destruction and the fear it causes when a maid goes to work for a middle class family. It is considered a masterpiece in Korean film history.

The KFA said once the project is completed, it will consider releasing the film in theaters nationwide as well as release it on DVD.
