Korea rides wave of women directors

A tide of female directors is sweeping through Korea.
First came the success of Lim Soon-rye's "Forever the Moment", which has notched 3.8 million in ticket sales. Now Park Hyeon-jin's "Lovers of 6 Years" is poised to be the next blockbuster.
Audiences are also excited about foreign female directors. Anne Fletcher's "27 Dresses" is set to open March 6. For 27 Dresses, Fletcher, the director of "Step Up" (2006), teamed up with "The Devil Wears Prada" screenwriter Aline McKenna.


Jeonju film festival sees entry bump

The number of films entered in the ninth Jeonju International Film Festival is up 16 percent, the festival organizing committee reported.
Entries accepted between Oct. 2 and Feb. 5 numbered 1,204, up from 1,035 last year. The festival takes place in Jeonju, North Jeolla, from May 1 to 9.

"Once upon a Time" ideal to start the Lunar New Year

Director JEONG Yong-ki's "Once upon a Time" topped the Lunar New Year holiday box office, closely followed by "Forever the Moment" and "Lovers of 6 Years". "The Devil's Game", "Last Present - 2007", and "A Man Who Was Superman" claimed places four to six, respectively. "Radio Dayz" was the seventh Korean film in the top ten at nine.

"Once upon a Time" is a comedy starring PARK Yong-woo and LEE Bo-yeong. "Forever the Moment" - a sports drama with MOON So-ri and KIM Jeong-eun, and directed by LIM Soon -rye - continued its strong box office run. The romantic drama "Lovers of 6 Years" features KIM Ha-neul and YOON Kye-sang, and PARK Hyeon-jin directed.

In "The Devil's Game", YOON In-ho directs SIN Ha-gyoon and BYEON Hee-bong whose characters switch bodies. KIM Yeong-joon's drama "Last Present - 2007" stars SIN Hyeon-joon and HA Ji-won. KIM Ha-neul in romantic drama

Popular actress KIM Ha-neul and YOON Kye-sang (of the former band G.O.D.) are faced with a relation crisis in their sixth year together. PARK Hyeon-jin directed and wrote "Lovers of 6 Years". She previously wrote scenarios for some of director LIM Sang-soo's projects.

KIM and YOON's characters live next door to each other and are in a long term relationship. Their relationship encounters some problems while at the same time they start having feelings for someone else who they met through their work.

KIM Ha-neul became a star when she starred opposite of KWON Sang-woo in the comedy "My Tutor Friend". They reprised their success with another comedy, "Almost Love". KIM also played in the romantic drama "Ditto" alongside YOO Ji-tae and in the horror film "Dead Friend".
