'Centenary of Korean Comics' in the US
'Comics Room of Memory', 'Screening of Manhwa-inspired Movies', and 'Writers' Workshop' await visitors
Korean manhwa, a blanket term for Korean comics and cartoons, visits LA with its imaginative power and rich visuals, commemorating the centennial of its birth.
Accordingly, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO: Lee Jae-woong) hosts an exhibition 'Manhwa 100: Centenary of Korean Comics' from 18th to 2th, next month with the Korea Cultural Center Los Angeles (President: Kim Jae-won).
The opening ceremony is held on 18th 6:30 p.m. (local time). This commemorative event, which is held in the L.A. center and the Korea Center, consists of 'Panel Display of 100 Years by Chronology' which provides an overview of the history of Korean manhwa, 'Popular Cartoonists Exhibition', 'Screening of Manhwa-inspired Movies and Animations', and 'Comics Room of Memory' displaying manhwas in both Korean and English.

Korean comic books, re-emerging as a popular form of cultural content, are now targeting the European market.
The Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA) will hold the 2009 Korean Comics Special Exhibition Feb. 2-7 at the Korean Culture Center in Paris, France, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the genre.
The exhibition is designed to explore the centennial history of the genre and shed light on seven veteran authors - Kim Jin-I, Park So-hee, Kim Byung-soo, Yoon Tae-ho, Shim Seung-hyun, Sobogi and Oh Youn.
The authors will also participate in the Angouleme International Comics Festival, which will take place Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Paris.
The authors will meet the local fans in the city Feb. 2-3 to share ideas on new trends and the circulation of Korean comics.

As soon as 'Speedy Scandal' came out, it topped the charts pushing 'Hello Schoolgirl' to the second in line!
It is a return to comedy movies as number 1 in charts!
This movie won 35.54% of reservations as the most this weekend. Number two in line was "Portrait of a Beauty" gaining 13.89 percent, " The Accidental Gangster and the Mistaken Courtesan" gaining 11.89% for Interpart Weekend ticketing.

Since debuting in 2003, the sweet, wistful online comics by Kang Pool have become a pop culture phenomenon in South Korea, generating countless Internet hits and message board discussions. Their incredible online following, however, failed to translate into box office success, as the first two attempts at bringing the comics to the big screen ("A.P.T" and "Ba:Bo") resulted in commercial flops.
But the third time may be the charm for the popular Internet cartoon. Opening on November 27, "Soonjeong Manhwa" ("Hello Schoolgirl"), based on Kang Pool's first serial, topped the box office in its first weekend. And the popularity is well deserved, as the film version adroitly brings the sweet and poignant love story to life.
