The long awaited Air Doll starring Korean actor BAE Doona is to get its Korean release. The actor has received a positive reception both internationally and in Japan where she has received 2 awards, including Best Actress at the Japanese Academy Awards and another at the Takasaki Film Festival.
The film, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and based on a Japanese manga, premiered at Cannes last May. It will be released in Korea April 8.
Back in Korea BAE is better known for her role as Nam-ju, the quietly spoken but competitive archer in BONG Joon-ho's "The Host", Korea's biggest ever grossing film. She also appeared in the same director's earlier effort "Barking Dogs Never Bite" (2000), in the JEONG Jae-eun directed "Take Care of My Cat" (2001) and as a heady social activist in PARK Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance".

Korean actress Bae Doona has been named Best Actress at the 23rd Takasaki Film Festival in Japan, according to the festival's official website on Thursday.
The actress won the award for her role in Japanese film "Air Doll", claiming her second win for the part at a film event. She will be receiving another acting title at the Japan Academy Awards on March 5.##
"I think the year 2010 will be a special year for me as an actor", the actress was quoted as saying. "I'm very happy and glad with my new drama being so loved by fans and now I've received the news of winning Best Actress".

| 240 Korean directors have picked the best director, movie and actors for 2009. Most notably, PARK Chan-wook picked up the best director award for the Cannes winning "Thirst". Previous to this he had won the award for "JSA - Joint Security Area" (2000), "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (2002) and "Old Boy" (2004). The long awaited "Thirst", as well as being eagerly received in Korea, played at the Fantasia Film Festival in Toronto and also had a limited U.S. release. For his performance in "Thirst", the ever present and hardest-working Korean actor SONG Kang-ho picked up his fifth actor of the year award. Korean directors picked Park Chan-wook, for his dark vampire thriller "Thirst" (Bakjwi), as the Best Director at the 12th Director's Cut Awards 2009, Thursday.
The Korea Film Director's Network awarded Best Actor to Song Kang-ho in recognition of his exceptional performance in "Thirst". Song played the lead role of a priest who, after receiving a mysterious blood transfusion, turns into a ravenous vampire.
The Best Actress award went to veteran actress Kim Hye-ja who played a major role in Bong Joon-ho's "Mother".She performed a remarkable role in the movie, playing a distraught mother who struggled to prove the innocence of her son who was framed for a neighbor's death.
Director-actor-producer Yang Ik-joon won the Independent Movie Director Award with his internationally-acclaimed "Breathless", a semi-indie flick about a victim of domestic violence who grows up to become an aggressive brute.

A Korean thriller titled "Thirst" by director Park Chan-wook, will be screened at the landmark E-Street cinema in Washington D.C., starting Aug. 14. It was already released to some theatres in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco on July 31.
Park Chan-wook is the award winning, critically acclaimed director of what is now dubbed the "Vengeance Trilogy" of "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance", "Old boy" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". This South Korean director and screenwriter first developed a cult following in America after the first movie in his trilogy was dubbed by Quentin Tarantino and Harry Knowles as the "Best movie of 2002". His second addition, "Old Boy" was an even greater success and seen by a much wider audience. Park is best noted for his exploration of morally complex issues rife with eye-popping violence, and tragic plot twists coupled with imaginative cinematographic techniques and lighting.
