`Shrek 2' Takes Over Box Office

"Shrek 2," an animated send-up of fairytales featuring the voices of Hollywood's top stars, opened at the top of the local box office.
The feature animation was seen by 240,000 viewers in Seoul on Saturday and Sunday. The total number of viewers for the film nationwide reached 850,000 and was shown on 330 screens overall.
"The Day After Tomorrow," about a modern-day Ice Age that takes over the world, dropped from the top spot to second. It was seen by 83,400 on 61 screens in Seoul. Overall, a little over 2.1 million viewers have seen the movie nationwide since its opening June 3.
Showing only on 35 screens, the local horror film "Ryung/The Ghost/Dead Friend" brought in 64,494 moviegoers in Seoul on its opening weekend. Some 375,000 people saw the movie nationwide in the four days of its opening on Thursday.
The Hollywood epic "Troy" dropped from third to fourth with 43,200 in Seoul, while the local Romantic Comedy "Nae Yojachingu-rul Sogaehapnida (Windstruck)" went from second to fifth with 39,000.
