Indie Singer Lucia Aims to Keep Testing Her Limits

Singer-songwriter Lucia has released her second album "Light & Shade: Chapter 1". She is a ballad singer, which is a rare to find in the indie music scene.

Was it her clear, yet slightly nasal, tone of voice that led her to choose ballads?#

"Actually, no. I started off as a jazz vocalist but it was difficult to make ends meet doing just jazz. So I wanted to expand my range to include a more popular genre, which led me to ballads", she said.

"It doesn't mean that I gave up jazz. I think I'm still in the process of doing the music I want to do while trying to find common ground with the audience".

She wanted to be a painter when she was young. She started taking part in singing contests in order to earn prize money so she could afford materials for her artwork. But one day she realized that she had more talent in music than art and changed paths.

Now she paints when she's not busy working on songs. She also plans to publish a novel this fall based on her travels in Spain last year.

"I don't want to be criticized for not focusing on music by getting distracted, so I will definitely release 'Light & Shade: Chapter 2' before this year ends", said Lucia.

Since she had a mini-album with six songs out last year, Lucia has been quite busy.

"I'm like a hard-working salary man who works 12 hours a day", said Lucia. "Artists need to know how to express themselves in their own way. I'd like to express more of who I am. I'll make myself work harder until people recognize me as such".

Lucia clearly does not want a fleeting career but a long one.
