The two stars attended an online press event for "Space Sweepers" on Tuesday.

The film, set in 2092, revolves around the crew of a spaceship who search for space debris. The crew makes a risky deal after finding a humanoid robot designed as a weapon of mass destruction.

Song appears as the smart pilot of the spaceship who is desperate to make big money, while Kim plays the spaceship's captain who used to be the leader of a notorious pirate group.

Both Song and Kim said they were attracted to the project because it is the first Korean space sci-fi film.

Kim's role in particular has generated a lot of excitement, as few could imagine her as a reckless pirate.

"I liked the idea of being a leader as a woman. When you think of a space film, you may imagine extravagant images and serious themes, but our film is a human drama. That's what gives the film its appeal", Kim said.

The film is scheduled for release on Sept. 23, ahead of Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving.
