[HanCinema's News] "Start-Up" Latest Major Film to Be Based on a Webtoon

Following in the same vein as "Steel Rain", "Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds", and "Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days", another film based on a webtoon is soon to appear in theaters.

"Start-Up" is quite a different kind of movie than the sort of high-concept action-based webtoons to gain big screen adaptations so far in South Korea, even as it stars Ma Dong-seok in the lead role.

"Start-Up" was serialized in webtoon form back in 2014. It has accumulated an average rating of 9.8 from satisfied readers. The story deals with rough yet simple characters who struggle to deal with the real world. Because "Start-Up" opens the day before "Ashfall", a more traditionally minded blockbuster, its prospects are unknown and a bit of a gamble. However, aggressive promotion has suggested the movie may have a deeper market than was originally suspected.
