Eun-oh isn't afraid of the dark or even ghosts and he acts indifferent to his slave Dol-se (Kwon Oh-jung) who is terribly afraid. Then Eun-oh sees a ghost, Arang (Shin Min-ah), running towards them. He feels goose bumps as she passes him and he freezes. Death Angel Moo-yeong (Han Jung-soo) follows her swinging his bat.
Seeing all this happening right in front of him, Eun-oh looks for a chance and tells Dol-se to hurry up and tries to ignore what he sees.
Eun-oh and Dol-se take shelter in a worn-down shack to avoid the rain. Dol-se falls asleep right away and Eun-oh thinks about his dead mother in front of the fire.
Arang also comes into the shack to avoid the rain. All wet, she takes off her clothes despite Eun-oh's presence until she locks eyes with him. Surprised, Arang talks to herself, "I think he just made eye contact with me, can he see me?" and keeps walking in front of him. Eun-oh tries to act cool by looking at one place. Arang presses his cheeks and even pushes her face in front of his.
Deciding that he can't see her, Arang starts talking about her story. Eun-oh doesn't want to hear it and lies down to sleep and so does arang.
That's how Eun-oh and Arang first meet and they sleep together.
